Channel 4 series “Food Unwrapped” travels the world to explore the industry secrets behind our favorite foods. The India episode reveals three food ingredients – turmeric, Pomegranate and Ghee. The ten-day schedule was filmed in Bengaluru, Mysore, Satara, and Mumbai.
There was a gap of 15 days between the recce and the filming. While the farmers were accommodating enough to put a hold on the harvesting of crops till the London crew arrived, nature took its own course. The excess rains in Maharashtra almost destroyed the plantations, which forced the farmers to harvest the Pomegranate earlier than the scheduled time. We had to make do with 3 trees that we requested be saved for us.
The production team had gone prepared with transparent tape to stick the pomegranates on the trees if required. Thankfully the pomegranates had decided to hang on to their branches till we finished. Since we had literally bought 3 trees, the team came back with excess baggage - of a 50 kilos of pomegranates. What we did with those many pomegranates is a different story altogether. Let’s just say, none of us wanted to look at pomegranates for the next few months. Overdosed!
