Overview

"Galileo" is the most famous cultural and scientific TV show for young people in Germany that has viewership all across Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

A 20-minute weekly documentary, this series covers cultural topics from across the world, showcasing interesting and challenging jobs that are fairly unknown to the viewer.

The format of series has 2 reporters competing against each other whilst trying to handle local jobs. The reporters are clueless about their destination or the challenge until the last minute.

In India, one of reporters works as a “Coolie” (porter at railway station) and his challenge is to earn as much as a coolie does on a regular working day. There can be no excuses, there is no staging and the amount of work load is absolutely the same. It is very interesting to see the host (the reporter) overcoming language barriers and doing intense physical labour with the assistance of his “mentor” – another coolie.

The two-day schedule was filmed at the crowded railway station of Pune in the State of Maharashtra.

Off-the-record

If you have a liking for suspense, mystery, nerve wrecking real life drama, then Indian Government permissions are totally up your alley. Plus 100% entertainment guaranteed!

Getting filming permissions and other mandatory approvals from the Pune Rail authorities was quite the task. Then there were further permissions required from the Head Office in Mumbai. Our Production team lost a significant amount of weight running around various offices to get this sorted.

It’s never easy making clients understand that the expensive permission is a norm and that there are so many layers of bureaucracy which one has to appease, to be able to get that one stamp of approval. There’s a lot that goes behind the simplest of things.

And after all this, our ordeal doesn’t end. What’s unbelievable in this Project is that the story probably didn’t cost as much as much as the bank guarantee we had to give to the Indian Railways.

While this exhilarating shoot was completed in the 1st week of December 2019; with happy clients and the story having been exceptionally well received, here we are in December 2020 - waiting to get that Bank guarantee back from the authorities.
