The Indian Air Force show “Iron Fist” is held once in every two years. The Exercise is aimed at showcasing the operational strength of a transforming Indian Air Force and assuring the nation that the safety of its sovereign skies lies in very capable hands. The event is attended by the President and the Prime Minister along with Defence Chiefs and Air Attachés of various countries. They witness the Indian Air Force's ability to strike the enemy during the day, at dawn and dusk.
We witnessed the IAF put together a compliment of 180 aircrafts from fighters to transporters to helicopters to demonstrate their ability to execute various aspects of air combat. The 7-day schedule was filmed in the desert town of Pokhran - Rajasthan
While this was a demonstration of the accuracy and lethality of the Air Force pilots, it was no less a challenge for our cameramen to follow the Sukhoi and the MIGs flying at a speed of 2500 km/hour.
We were on our own battlefield struggling to survive between the thundering sound of the finest fighter jets rocketing the sky and dealing with snakes & scorpions in the camp's harsh desert environment. You could have shot a reality series right there. Survivor anyone?
